We are going to have a holiday party later today!
We're almost done with our science, social studies, and reading units. We had a math assessment on Best Buys, Rates, and Ratios. We had a social studies assessment on Explorers. We made 5 posters in math to show our thinking about math problems. In writing, we are in our draft stage of our literary opinion essays. We have a book swap today! We are going to have a big clean-up before winter vacation starts. Mrs. Class' present to us is no word study assessment today! We started a new read aloud book this week, Number the Stars. In reading, we are still working on understanding nonfiction texts. The teachers are changing their switch subjects starting in January. Yesterday, we went to a concert at LHS to hear the choral and a cappella groups perform. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! On Friday, 5C put their knowledge of electricity to the test. The wired a "house" and included both series and parallel circuits, as well as switches in their designs. Check out the work they did!
We started a unit about nonfiction reading.
Sadly Mrs. Neely left, but Mrs. Hall is back from maternity leave! We're doing a math Context Unit with partners, where we solve real world problems. In science, we're learning the behaviors of plants and animals. In Social Studies, we're learning about the people who came to the Americas (European explorers). We are sharing PowerPoint presentations about these explorers. In writing, we're using the books we read to write an opinion essay about how a character changes in the book. We're changing our science unit from Electricity & Magnetism to a review unit. The Peace Concert is next week, and we've been working really hard to prepare our music for it. Fitness Testing for PE is almost finished! Many of us are reading MCBA (Massachusetts Children's Book Awards) books |
